Application of 420 stainless steel

420 stainless steel is a common stainless steel material, mainly composed of chromium (12%~14%), carbon (0.15%~0.40%), silicon (less than 1%), manganese (less than 1%), phosphorus (less than 0.04%), sulfur (less than 0.03%), etc. 420 stainless steel has high hardness and wear resistance, as well as good corrosion resistance, and can be used for manufacturing knives, blades, surgical instruments, bearing components, assembly parts etc. This material also has workability and plasticity, making it easy to machine products of various shapes and sizes through processes such as cutting, forging, and heat treatment.

International standard code of 420 stainless steel

JIS SUS420J1, ASTM 420, UNS S42000, 2Cr13, 20Cr13

FAQ

Q: What other types of stainless steel HR can produce?

A: HR can also produce AISI 321 stainless steel castings, USA standard is ASTM 321, JIS standard is SUS 321, BS/EN standard is 1.4541, KS standard is STS 321, China standard is 0Cr18Ni10Ti, 06Cr18Ni11Ti

Q: How about the heat treatment of 420 stainless steel?

A: During hardening treatment, the material should be heated to 1010-1065 ℃ and quenched in warm oil.

In order to achieve maximum hardness and corrosion resistance, tempering should be carried out between 150-205 ℃, followed by air cooling. This will produce a hardness of approximately Rc 52. To ensure maximum corrosion resistance, the material should not be tempered at temperatures exceeding 430 ℃.

In terms of cutting performance, 420 stainless steel is somewhat similar to high carbon tool steel due to its high carbon content. If machinability is the most important, it is easier to machine and will be obtained from free machining of 420 stainless steel, but it may affect other properties.

In terms of welding performance, this material is rarely welded. Satisfactory welds can be obtained by preheating to 150-205 ℃ and then annealing at 730-790 ℃ and air cooling for 6-8 hours. If welding performance is important, 420 filler rods should be used.

Q: Do you make heat-resistant materials?

A: Of course, some types of stainless steel are heat-resistant materials, meanwhile HANRUI excels in casting wear-resistant and low-temperature resistant steels
